23.09.2024 year from 10.00 to 12.30 On the eve of World Day Against Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, the health care institution “Minsk Clinical Center for Phthisiopulmonology” will host an information and educational campaign “Stop, tobacco!»., aimed at combating smoking and raising awareness of COPD.

The purpose of the campaign is to increase public awareness regarding the harmful health consequences of tobacco consumption and exposure to tobacco smoke, formation of civil society support for measures, aimed at combating tobacco consumption, creating conditions to protect the health of citizens from the effects of environmental tobacco smoke in accordance with the Decree of the President of the Republic of Belarus and the provisions of the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control.
This bad habit leads to death every year. 6 millions of people, of which more 5 million – tobacco users and former users, and more 600 thousand - non-smokers, exposed to second-hand tobacco smoke.
About one person dies from tobacco every six seconds, that is, every tenth death occurs among adults. Almost 80% of the world's more than one billion smokers live in low- and middle-income countries, bear the highest burden of tobacco-related disease and mortality.
Smoking is an established behavior among young people. In Europe as a whole, smoking prevalence among young people aged 15-28 years approximately is about 30% with a slight upward trend.
After, how do you quit smoking:
Within a month, your breath will significantly clear and your chronic cough will no longer bother you.. Getting enough sleep will become easier. Performance will increase. The overall tone will increase significantly.
Across 3-6 months, the lungs will be freed from the harmful products of burning tobacco (resins, tobacco dust, etc.).
Across 1 hour on 50% the risk of developing coronary disease will be reduced.
Across 5 years, the likelihood of developing lung cancer will significantly decrease.

Don't smoke. Smoking is the leading cause of premature death.
If you smoke, stop. Quitting smoking before the onset of cancer or other serious diseases prevents an increased risk of developing tobacco-related diseases later in life., even if smoking stops in middle age.
If you can't quit smoking, do not smoke in the presence of non-smokers. Your smoking may have adverse effects on the health of others.
