Press release for World Blood Donor Day – 14 june 2022 of the year, celebrated in the Republic of Belarus

14 june 2022 year in the Republic of Belarus is traditionally celebrated "World Blood Donor Day". On this day, we express our sincere gratitude to those people, who donate their blood, its components, necessary to save human lives, and aim to draw attention to the need to participate in regular voluntary donation.

The theme of this year's campaign is "Blood donation - an act of solidarity. Become a donor and save lives".

As recommended by the World Health Organization (hereinafter - WHO) the following main goals of the campaign for the World Blood Donor Day have been identified 2022 of the year:

Express gratitude to blood donors around the world and raise awareness of the general public about the need to donate blood regularly;
remind donors of the need to donate blood systematically throughout the year, because it maintains an adequate supply of blood and enables timely and safe blood transfusion everywhere;
recognize and promote the importance of voluntary blood donation in strengthening social solidarity and social cohesion;
Raise awareness of the need to direct public resources towards building a sustainable national blood service and increasing blood donation.

Availability of safe blood, its components is a critical component for the provision of many types of medical care in surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, oncology, transplantation that saves lives every day.

IN 2021 r. the maximum number of blood donors recruited in the Republic of Belarus, its components. This made it possible to achieve the maximum in the history of the national blood service and sufficient to meet the standards of state provision of the needs of healthcare organizations for planned and emergency transfusion assistance volumes of procurement.
In general, the Republic took part in donations more than 100000 blood donors, its components. More 68 000 blood donors, its components were awarded the distinction "Ganarov donar of the Republic of Belarus".
The National Blood Service fully provides healthcare organizations of the Republic of Belarus with high-quality and safe blood components, diagnostic kits of our own production, as well as essential drugs from human plasma.
Implementation of new and innovative blood donation technologies has been chosen as a strategic direction for the development of the industry, its components, examination and storage of blood components, cell biotechnologies for the production of medicines and medical products. Double screening of donor blood for markers of transfusion-transmissible infections has been introduced, technologies that ensure maximum safety of blood products.

The implementation of an innovative project for the biopharmaceutical production of medicines will allow us to have our own strategic technologies for the production and quality control of biotechnological products, and scientific developments in the field of biotechnology (dry plasma production, intravenous immunoglobulin, biomedical cell product, plasma, platelet rich) – to find promising ways for the development and creation of new drugs.

FROM 1 June in the Republic of Belarus by the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Belarus, state institution "Republican Research and Practical Center for Transfusiology and Medical Biotechnology" with the participation of the Belarusian Red Cross Society, NGO "Belaya Rus" and other public organizations start corporate campaigns of Donor Days, dedicated to "World Blood Donor Day".
Initiative groups are invited to participate in the events, non-profit organizations, employees of public and private companies, implementing projects within the framework of corporate social responsibility, activists and volunteers of public associations, as well as students of vocational and technical institutions, secondary specialized and higher education.

The Ministry of Health of the Republic of Belarus and the blood service of the Republic of Belarus congratulate all donors and medical workers on the "World Blood Donor Day", call to support the action on voluntary blood donation and to take part 14 june 2022 years in donations based on blood service organizations throughout the Republic of Belarus.
