World No Tobacco Day

28.05.2021 | Heading: Information

Two dates are celebrated every year, devoted to the problem of smoking tobacco - 31 May (World day
no tobacco smoke) and the third Thursday of November (International smoking cessation day) - with the aim of
drawing public attention to the negative consequences of tobacco smoking.
International Smoking Cessation Day is celebrated at the initiative of the International Society
oncologists and with the support of the World Health Organization (TRAIN). World day without
tobacco, ie. day, smoke free. It was installed in 1988 year of the World
healthcare organization. In May 2003 year WHO adopted the Convention on Tobacco Control,
joined by more 90 countries. The world community was given the task –
to achieve, so that the problem of tobacco smoking disappears in the 21st century. WHO warns with this action
population of the planet (more than half of the total male population of the planet are smokers and
about a quarter of female) from addiction – one of the most widespread epidemics in the entire
history of human existence – nicotine addiction, standing on a par with alcoholism and
drug addiction. Tobacco is the only legal product, from which half dies
of people, regularly using it.
The fight against smoking is happening all over the world. IN 140 countries have passed laws, restricting smoking. IN
Some cities in Singapore have whole "non-smoking" neighborhoods. In America, some
firms refuse to hire smokers at all. There is a ban on production
some types of tobacco products, eg, extra strong or non-filter cigarettes. Many
manufacturers build their factories abroad without the right to sell at home. In our country
similar measures are actively used to ban advertising in the media, prohibition of free layout in
sales, sale ban until 18 years. FROM 2017 years on packaging of tobacco products is required
images of the effects of smoking should be applied.
It should be noted, that with good awareness of the health dangers of tobacco smoking, few
strive to get rid of nicotine addiction. Either the person does not realize the full severity of the consequences
using tobacco for your health or thinks, that the disease will not touch him, either habit
smoking is so strong, that there is no way to refuse it. Doctors suggest smokers though
would for this day give up the bad habit. but, according to statistics, quit smoking first
fewer attempts 20 % smokers.
Tobacco is the most common, popular and affordable herbal drug in the world,
having in its chemical composition one of the most poisonous plant alkaloids (nicotine).
Despite the apparent "ease" of smoking: “Just a bad habit, this is not alcoholism and
addiction", smoking, it is not the drug or alcohol that causes the greatest harm to health
societies.
There is an expression, that "a drop of nicotine kills a horse". Some scholars believe, what is this drop
capable of killing more than one, and three horses. As for people, then a lethal dose of nicotine for
human - 50-100 milligrams. When smoked a day 20-25 cigarettes for 30 years old smoker
passes through his lungs 150-160 kilograms of tobacco and does not die just because, what introduces it
small doses.
Composition of tobacco smoke. In addition to nicotine, it contains carbon monoxide, hydrocyanic acid, hydrogen sulfide,
ammonia and concentrate from liquid and solid combustion products and dry distillation of tobacco, called
tobacco tar. Tobacco tar contains about a hundred chemical compounds, including
carcinogens (carcinogens – chemical substances, the effect of which on the human body can
cause cancer (severe cancer)).
The effect of tobacco smoke on the human body. Constant smoking is accompanied by bronchitis,
causes chronic irritation of the vocal cords, affects the timbre of the voice. As a result
the entry of smoke into the lungs blood in the alveolar capillaries instead of, to get rich
oxygen, saturated with carbon monoxide, which leads to oxygen starvation. Hydrocyanic acid

chronically poisons the nervous system. Ammonia irritates mucous membranes, declines
resistance of the lungs to various infectious diseases, including tuberculosis.
According to statistics, 45 percent of deaths are directly or indirectly related to tobacco smoking. By scientists
established, that when smoking one pack of cigarettes, a person receives a dose of radiation seven times
bigger than that, which is recognized as the maximum permissible. And radiation of tobacco origin, coupled with
other carcinogenic substances - the main cause of cancer.
According to WHO, from various diseases, smoking related, dies 4,9 million people a year.
Mortality from lung cancer in people who smoke in 20 times higher, than non-smokers. Tobacco lovers in 13
times more often suffer from angina pectoris and in 10 times more often stomach ulcers.
Unfortunately, the cigarette has firmly blended into the life of society. For many, smoking is just as natural., how
wash up, brush your teeth, there is, drink.
Installed, As for 90 percent of people start smoking from a young age.
Passive smoking is no less dangerous - it has a detrimental effect on the respiratory system, Besides,
tobacco smoke is the strongest allergen. Passive smoker inhales the same hazardous substances,
as a cigarette lover, despite their low concentration.
by the way, not only illnesses are carried by a lit cigarette. According to statistics, unstuffed cigarette butt is one of
the most common causes of household, and industrial fires. It is no coincidence that foreigners even
came up with such "fire fighting" measure: the other day in the EU countries a categorical ban was introduced
on "long-running" cigarettes. That is, all cigarettes entering stores must be
self-extinguishing.
This measure is intended to reduce the number of fires, arising from non-extinguished cigarettes.
Manufacturers are required to use hard in the manufacture of cigarettes
flammable tissue paper. What will such a measure give, It's not clear yet, but the goal is good.
In addition to saving lives and reducing health inequalities, complex struggle
tobacco control limits the adverse environmental impacts of growing, production,
trade and consumption of tobacco.
Tobacco control can break the cycle of poverty, contribute to the elimination of hunger,
promote sustainable agricultural development and economic growth, and
counteract climate change. Increasing taxation of tobacco products could also
serve the interests of financing universal health coverage and other
government development programs.
Governments are not the only ones to step up efforts to control tobacco: people can contribute
my personal contribution to a sustainable tobacco-free world. People can make a commitment
never use tobacco. They, who already uses tobacco, can refuse this
habits or seek appropriate help, which will also keep them healthy, and
protect people, exposed to secondhand smoke, including children, other family members and friends.
Money, not spent on tobacco, may, in turn, be directed to other important needs, therein
including the purchase of products for a healthy diet, healthcare and education. .
